Where is the Floodplain for my Gutter?
Think of a traditional gutter that is overflowing with water. That “top” is essentially the plain where water will discharge in the event the gutter becomes clogged. Installing Above the Floodplain Reduces Chances for Wood Rot
When gutters or downspouts get clogged they begin to overflow. In addition, storms or other windy conditions cause the stored water to splash against the soffit and fascia. These are not protected in other gutter systems, so the wood begins to soften and rot.
At this point, water seeps through the rotted area into the home itself. In turn, it puts interior areas at risk for water damage if the moisture reaches unprotected areas.
Avoid Separation and Collapse
As the fascia continues to rot it begins to destabilize the gutter hangers. If these come completely loose it results in the collapse of the gutter. This brings down the fascia, siding, and in the end it leads to some large repair bills.
