K-Guard vs. Other Gutter Systems

In the market for a new gutter system? There are a few different options to choose from: traditional half-round gutters, gutter covers, filters/screens, and what are referred to as “complete” gutter systems. The decision to install a new gutter system is a very important one, therefore, research should be done before selecting a new gutter system.

One of the most frequently asked questions we get here at K-Guard is how our product compares to other gutter systems. When we say the K-Guard Leaf Free Gutter System offers unmatched performance and has extreme durability we truly mean it, especially when compared to other gutter systems.

Whether you’re purchasing a new home that doesn’t have a gutter system installed or if your home’s existing gutter system needs to be replaced, we want to help you narrow down your research. Keep reading to learn the differences between K-Guard vs. other gutter systems.

Half-Round Gutters

There are many differences between K-Guard and traditional half-round gutter systems. Aside from K-Guard being the more attractive option, there are many differences when it comes to how the systems are installed, their durability, and more.

First, half-round gutters mount to the fascia and even the roof, in rare cases, whereas K-Guard mounts above the floodplain. A gutter system that is mounted to the fascia or roof can cause separation, sagging, and other damage over time.

Another major difference between half-round gutters and K-Guard is the size of the downspouts and inside corners. Traditional half-round gutter systems use 2×3” downspouts, while K-Guard has large 4×3” downspouts (also referred to as 3×4” downspouts). Smaller downspouts don’t allow for proper drainage in heavy precipitation. The K-Guard Gutter System allows for 22 inches of rain per hour to move throughout the system thanks to our larger downspouts. K-Guard is also the only gutter system with 45 degree by 45 degree inside corners which allows water to flow around the corner and into the downspout even as water from the roof corner is trying to enter the gutter.

Gutter Covers and Filters/Screens

While the K-Guard Gutter System is often confused with other gutter cover solutions and filters/screens, they are very different. Both gutter covers and filters/screens are installed on the top of a half-round gutter system where the gutter is exposed. They’re a cheaper alternative to installing a complete gutter system and function to keep debris out. While they may seem like a great idea, they don’t eliminate debris from entering the gutter system.

While gutter covers and filters/screens keep larger debris, like leaves and twigs, out of the gutter system, debris can sit on the top and create a heavy mess for homeowners. When debris does sit on the top of these systems, it can block the tiny openings in the filters and screens, ultimately blocking the flow of water. When water isn’t able to flow through the gutters and into the downspouts, the gutter system will overflow and can sag as a result of heavy water.

K-Guard is a full, seamless product complete with a curved hood, larger gutters, and downspouts that all work together to keep leaves, debris, and pests out.  As a result, debris isn’t able to enter the gutters and water can flow freely throughout the entire system. You’ll never need to replace your K-Guard Gutter System because it’s backed by three-lifetime warranties!

Other “Complete” Gutter Systems

There are other “complete” gutter systems on the market, however, they don’t offer the same durability and protection that K-Guard does. For starters, their gutters and downspouts are often smaller and have less capacity to move water through the gutter system. We experience heavy downpours often here in The Heartland, so it’s important to have a system that can keep up with heavy rain flow.

Other “complete” gutter systems can also sag, cause the home’s fascia boards to rot, and the gutters can pull away from the home. The K-Guard Leaf Free Gutter System has trough support that will never sag, a rear drainage channel that protects the fascia boards, and a lifetime no pull away warranty.

Selecting the right gutter system for your home can be overwhelming. With half-round gutters, gutter covers and filters/screens, and “complete” gutter systems to consider, there are many options. However, no other gutter system on the market can compete with K-Guard’s durability and performance.
